Andy Hay is a fine art landscape photographer based in Scotland, originating his work through the medium of analogue photography, processing within the digital darkroom. He explores ancient landscapes, aiming to discern the ambience of their past. Mons Graupius, Allegoria is an exploration of Scottish landscapes historically associated with a pitched battle between Rome’s legions and massed Caledonian warriors. The work reflects on the human impacts of Roman imperialism. Through fine art photography, he traces over 25 sites linked to the Mons Graupius battle, reflecting on both Roman ambition and its effects on Caledonian society, using analogue medium format black-and-white film and digital processing methods.
