Ashley Karrell is a Leeds-based, Caribbean-born artist, director and photographer working across film, TV, photography, theatre and multidisciplinary art. His photographic practice explores identity, visibility and self expression through collaborative portraiture. He is the creator of Expression Of You, a long-term living art project, developed across the UK, Europe, the Caribbean and Central America. The project encompasses over 300 women and female-identifying participants, using collaborative portraiture, first person writing and video to explore identity, visibility and self expression. Karrell has presented work internationally and creates spaces for participants to shape their own narratives and challenge dominant forms of representation.
