Demetris Koilalous, an Athens-based photographer, studied Town Planning and Geography in Edinburgh and London. Solo and Group exhibitions include: Benaki Museum, Museum of Photography Thessaloniki, Institut du Monde Arabe, Aperture Foundation, Head On Photo Festival, Les Boutographies. Accolades include two Prix Pictet nominations, Fotofilmic Grand Winner, Center-Santa-Fe, Kuala Lumpur, YICCA first prizes, two award-winning books (Kehrer-Verlag). Shortlisted twice for Gomma Grant. Koilalous’ work explores landscape, memory and human identity. In his Beirut series, he reflects on a war-damaged church on the Green Line, developing the concept of “Anti-Paradise” to describe the paradox of sacrifice, loss and the illusion of victory in both war and contemporary society.
