Hilary Powell’s practice merges the poetic with the political, weaving stories, materials and communities into transformative works spanning rebel banks to power stations. Ancient Sunlight, a collaboration with the phyto-remediating sunflower, features chlorophyll photographs of fossil fuel infrastructure and portraits printed in reclaimed oil. Through this project, Powell highlights cycles of extraction and renewal, revealing how art can foster ecological awareness, social engagement and radical repair. Her work challenges environmental destruction by cultivating a deeper connection between people, nature and the possibilities of restoration.
