Trace as form: where experience becomes matter. Iva Urban is a Ukrainian artist based in London. She works with an abstract language, building works through material and surface. Her works move between reduction and density, from minimal form to materially rich surfaces. In her practice, Urban engages with contemporary experience, including the impact of war, information overload and internal states, where experience gains material presence. “Cry of the Earth” belongs to The Red and Black Series, reflecting the struggle for freedom. The painting manifests space absorbing the trauma of war. Soil, black and red pigment, and embedded shell casings preserve traces of devastation.
