Working across Manila, Dubai and New York, James Clar (b. 1979), a Filipino-American artist and NYU Interactive Telecommunications Program alumnus, explores the narrative potential of light and technology. He develops unique lighting systems for sculptural installations, critically examining technology’s influence on perception and culture. This large-scale luminous urban installation extends these concerns, reshaping understanding of reality, time and space. Each communication system amplifies specific information while limiting others, a principle reflected in the sculptural work, conceived as freezing a moment into a physical shape and capturing a lightning bolt striking the earth.
