JJ Johnson’s multidisciplinary practice interrogates intimacy, family, gender and social structures through writing, performance, painting and video. Challenging normative ideas around connection and reproduction, their recent work explores gender-fluid identities and the creation of language and roles. Johnson’s projects reveal the complexities of human relationships and societal constructs, drawing from personal experience to provoke broader cultural reflection. As a lecturer at Goldsmiths and a DPhil candidate at Oxford, their work bridges academic inquiry with creative expression, inviting critical dialogue on identity and belonging.
