Joanna Byrne is an artist-filmmaker using tactile, material, collaborative and sustainable approaches to creating moving image - combining painterly and experimental techniques within analogue filmmaking. Her current work in film and expanded installation traces themes of rewilding, ecological resilience, urban memory and interstitial spaces. Her work has been screened across the UK and internationally within gallery, cinema and non-traditional spaces. Her installation Past Lives is a multi-medium environment exploring a derelict Shipley site, using analogue film, field recordings and plant-based processes to evoke layered histories, shifting scale and perception, and a dreamlike space between memory, landscape and time.
