Life feels so precarious and unpredictable. Life is fragile and death comes too soon for far too many. The invisible link that binds loved ones together until one slips away is strong and enduring and is explored by Judith Jones in her photography of fading tulips. Jones also explores exclusion and isolation, fear and uncertainty in ambiguous spaces at twilight. Influenced by Dutch still life memento mori paintings, she captures tulips as they gently fade, creating an anthropomorphic state that evokes loss and grief, illustrating enduring bonds, their fracture, and gestures of care as loved ones succumb.
