Julie Umerle

English Red (2025)

Julie Umerle studied at Falmouth University, Cornwall, and Parsons School of Design, New York City. In her practice, she explores the processes of abstract painting, whilst investigating materials and the ways in which human beings perceive images. Her recent collection of bold abstractions continues her enquiry into the parameters of geometry, colour and space. In English Red, named after an earth pigment, she develops a minimal, monochrome, hard-edged composition. This is an architectural image in which a central form is given spatial prominence by the stretched canvas ground.
