Jay Lim documents the lives of queer men who exist outside of societal norms. The artist uses photography as a mode of communication that reaches beyond spoken language, inviting viewers to question dominant assumptions about queer experience. He is interested in exploring alternative ways for queer people to feel, remember and resist. Singapo-ren Love explores his identity as a gay Singaporean Chinese man. Created between London and Singapore, the series navigates tensions within relationships between family members and lovers. The images depict familiar scenes, from café dates and holiday getaways to family gatherings. Lim turns these locations on their head, using them as “camouflage” for his characters, highlighting how queer narratives have remained largely invisible.
