The international student team behind Ordinary Life wanted to hand back the narrative to the working-class community. Using first-person testimonies to chronicle the adversities faced by the director’s mother and uncle while growing up, the filmmakers quietly observed their relationship through an intimate poetic-observational portrait of their present-day life, with the aim of proving trauma does not define oneself.
