Katrina Cobain is an interdisciplinary Irish artist based in Glasgow. Drawn to absurdity and its ability to puncture hopelessness, her work has a subtle humour, which she considers a form of resistance. Currently concerned with the duplexity of materials and their layered realities, she contrasts environmental impacts with more personal narratives of nostalgia, optimism, and the performativity of self. Cobain’s Plastic Bag Museum is an ongoing archive and performative museum of carrier bags, developed from 2020, which explores plastic’s material history, climate breakdown and collective memory. First online and later exhibited in person, it gathers global contributions, highlighting collaboration, nostalgia and transformation of waste into meaning.
