Kin>% aka cell_less is a PhD artist-researcher at the University of Newcastle, who is developing her notion of “‘Digital Fatalism” and narratives of inevitability around technology. Dissimulation is a multi-screen video installation (rendered here for single screen) and an exposé of the hidden labour that goes into making Artificial Intelligence. It looks specifically at the experience of click-work and data-labelling, which is outsourced by hugely profitable US companies to low-paid, precarious workers. She examines the ‘black box’ of AI, using generative images and clickworker testimonies to interrogate hidden labour, dataset ethics, and the concealment of human agency within automated systems.
