Lin Cheng is a Chinese visual artist based in Glasgow, working across narrative illustration, moving image and artists’ books. Her practice explores childhood memory, women’s voices and collective silence, weaving intimate personal narratives with broader social reflection. Through poetic visual storytelling, she creates contemplative spaces for empathy and dialogue. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in London, Paris, New York, Beijing and Glasgow. She was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2025 and the Scholastic Picture Book Award. Her work also is held in the collection of the Brookline Arts Center in the United States. Women in a Case began in 2018 as an exploration of women’s constrained roles within traditional and contemporary social frameworks. The work draws from narratives of silence, containment and resilience, reflecting on how women’s bodies and voices are often framed – literally and metaphorically – by external expectations.
