Liszu Tan

A Moment / Alignment Within (2025)

From embodied experience and the politics of bodily presence in space, Liszu Tan’s practice is rooted in a fascination with the body—from its inner workings to its movements. In this work, the Malaysian artist explores the tension between lightness and heaviness as a way of awakening the sensory system. She became disconnected from her body after a month-long coma, leading her to re-examine its connection in space. By applying embodied movement principles of alignment, strength and balance, she seeks reconnection through assemblages and live performance. In A Moment, she conveys suspended tension through a bowling ball, while Alignment Within uses interactive sculpture to explore grounding, balance and reconnection.
