Liszu Tan

A Moment / Alignment Within (2025)

Liszu Tan’s practice is rooted in a fascination with the human body – from its inner workings to embodied experience and politics. The Malaysian artist explores the tension between lightness and heaviness as a way of awakening the sensory system. She draws upon her personal experience, when she became disconnected from her own body after being in a month-long coma. Her work is an attempt to reconnect, applying principles of movement, strength and balance through assemblages and live performance. In A Moment, she conveys suspended tension through a bowling ball, whilst Alignment Within uses interactive sculpture to explore grounding, balance and reconnection.
