Luiza Gottschalk grew up as a kid in a forest amid a diversity of life forms. That multisensory experience of density and closeness, chaos and fecundity, combined with her background in theatre shaped her immersive approach to painting in particular, and its dimensions, seeing them as portals to those early sensations through a performative attitude by gesture and mark-making. Action and reaction, like in a dance, the images appear accidentally. It is a process of layering that merges elements of abstraction with figures, combining oil and water based pigments to create surfaces that are both opaque and transparent.
