Marni Saunders’ practice seeks to expose the dirty, the discarded and the overlooked. Through found objects and sculptural processes like resin casting, she explores themes of unseen labour, gendered work and maintenance, interrogating what society conceals, sanitises and deems unworthy of attention. This work consists of two vertical washing machine drums stuffed with “unwanted” hotel bed sheets, held in place with tinted Perspex and mounted on the wall, inspired by industrial hotel wash houses near Edinburgh. It reflects on unseen labour and the quiet, often invisible work behind cleanliness and order in both personal and societal contexts.
