Playful, symbiotic relationships are represented in Tessa Teixeira’s artwork. Her practice explores existential philosophy and consciousness through the urgent lens of climate change, ecology and biodiversity loss. Inspired by the concept of “plant blindness” – our cultural tendency to overlook plants as vital beings – she challenges the way we perceive the natural world. Unlike animals, plants often fade into the background, seen as a homogeneous green backdrop with “‘low signal value”, ignored despite their extraordinary intelligence and resilience. Her practice experiments with non-toxic, ecologically sustainable materials.
