These abstract sculptures place a strong emphasis on form and colour. Born in Belfast and based in the West Country, Patricia Volk's practice is motivated by an affinity with her material and instinctual decisions. Seeking the perfect line, her distinctive art plays with knowing contradictions of lightness and weight, fragility and power, as a way of expressing human relationships and emotions. Sometimes her creations seem balanced and delicate, others seem as though they may topple. As Volk describes, this is “just as relationships between people, in life.”
