Rebecca Rich was born in New York and lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She has a BA from Occidental College and an MFA from Claremont. Her painting practice emerges from an ongoing spiritual inquiry into freedom within constraint. Working in a surrealist feminist abstraction shaped by material, texture, and light, she moves between self, memory, and the unconscious, rejecting fixed identity and hierarchy. Sculptural, layered surfaces shift with time, viewer movement, holding tension without resolution, inviting intuitive, embodied encounters. The work acts as a witness for the viewer. She resists immediate readability, using language, metallic surfaces and dense layers that require close, active viewing and physical engagement.
