Bubbling Away (2024)

UK-based artist Roberta Mason explores our fundamental interconnection with the ocean, using biophilic sculpture to advocate for the restoration of the natural world. By reconciling high-heat glassmaking with radical sustainability and repurposed materials, her practice addresses environmental fragility. Mason’s work serves as a physical dialogue, inviting a revaluation of our profound bond with the sea and all life within. In Bubbling Away, inspired by bubble coral, she uses repurposed glass and mirror; the distorted reflections confront viewers with their presence in a diminished natural world, provoking reflection on collective choices and their impact on living systems.
