Shamica Ruddock works across multiple mediums, but sound is central to her practice. Palimpsests & Epithets features a dubplate with locked grooves that loop continuously. As the record plays and the surface gradually wears, the original audio deteriorates and new sonic artifacts emerge. This process creates evolving soundscapes that reflect themes of (techno)creolisation and cultural hybridity. Through this innovative use of sound and physical decay, Ruddock explores how cultures merge, transform and create new meanings over time.
