DECADE compresses ten years of daily news into layered visual records of collective experience and reflection. For 10 years, Tokyo-based photographer Soushi Tanaka took multiple exposures of the morning newspaper and posted the images online. The project concluded on 31 March 2025, and has now been compiled into the series DECADE. Tanaka hopes that viewers will reflect deeply on the issues they are faced with throughout this body of work. The project considers how small “parts” accumulate into larger whole’s, using repeated photographic processes of daily, monthly, and yearly newspaper images to reflect on time, society, and change.
