Echoes of the Displaced 念 (2025)

Suwen Wang is a London-based artist and design researcher working at the intersection of AI, digital storytelling and cultural heritage. He holds an MA in Digital Media Arts and is pursuing an MRes in Communication Research at the Royal College of Art, UK. His work shows how immersive technologies can reconnect displaced cultural artefacts with their emotional, historical and geographic contexts. His practice explores the “heritage empathy gap,” a term which describes the struggle museum visitors often have to connect with, understand or relate to objects from different time periods and cultures. Wang bridges this divide by combining AI-generated voice, text and sound with AR and 3D media. In so doing, he transforms objects into narrative agents – challenging conventional institutional displays and proposing new models of digital restitution, engagement and cross-cultural communication.
