Digigrams (2024-ongoing)

Digigrams’ investigates the material conditions of digital photography by intervening directly on the camera sensor. Through acts of damage – scratching, drilling and altering the photosensitive surface – the apparatus records its own degradation rather than external reality. The resulting images become self-referential traces of their own production. By foregrounding the sensor as a photographic material, the work challenges the notion of digital immateriality. Colours smear and glitch across the frame, or dissolve into speckles and noise. Tommy Goguely’s practice more broadly explores the status of photography in the digital age, examining the continuities and tensions between analogue and digital formats.
