Wei Zhang is a Glasgow-based filmmaker and PhD candidate at Kingston School of Art. Their practice investigates the Chinese queer diaspora through the lens of bodily transmogrification and "crises of articulation. By blending collage with experimental soundscapes, Zhang reframes non-normative gendered experiences. Their work has been exhibited at Glasgow International 2024, Adelaide Fringe 2025 and Bangkok Biennial. Wah Yen (2024), a moving image work, set in 1970s Glasgow, follows Chen, a queer, neurodivergent Chinese immigrant working in a restaurant, and their relationship with James, using non-linear narrative, animation, archival footage and drag to explore intercultural exchange, change and self-acceptance.
