Yuyue He

Safe Trip (2024)

Yuyue He’s visual art practice examines identity, social structure, collective memory and the politics of looking. Her works often incorporate objects that are overlooked yet rooted in everyday life – from decorative lights to plastic bags or gym equipment. Yuyue He is interested in the cultural and emotional weight of these items, especially in relation to diasporic identity, vernacular traditions and "the fragile architectures of belonging shaped by geographic and cultural displacement." Safe Trip (2024) follows a Chinese paper-offering figure as it drifts through liminal spaces, carrying a letter compiled from real 20th century Chinese immigrant family correspondence. Blending fictional narrative and documentary form, the film explores diasporic memory, emotional continuity and the spiritual ties between home and foreign land.
