Sinead Rice

Yellow Painting Installation (2023)

Sinead Rice’s minimal paintings are concerned with reductive colour. Surfaces are built up through layers of oil paint to achieve physical depth. This process helps to create a sense of "Yugen", a Japanese concept which means “inexpressible depth” or “invisible beauty”. The idea is to emulate fleeting moments of awareness, and the realisation of transience, which we can experience when in the natural world.
