André Wallace

Cargo (2021)

André Wallace studied at the Somerset College of Art, Liverpool College of Art, Royal Academy Schools and the Royal College of Art in which he was awarded the Sainsbury Award for Sculpture. His work questions what it is to be human. He introduces us to themes of transformation, change and the passage of time. Figures encapsulated in vessels suggest a journey, an arrival or departure or rite of passage. CARGO alludes to the transportation of human cargo whether Boat People or Slavery. CARGO can also be interpreted as voyaging through space and time with sleepers in suspended animation. Ultimately the meaning is left to the viewer to define through the lens of their own life experience.
